For my interest approach lab in 412 I chose to use my SAE... What is it? lesson plan. For this lesson I hid index cards around the room, each with a different direction. Some said become this letter "s, a, or e", where some said when called on act a specific idea such as farmer, an experiment, showman, and the list could go on and on. I considered this a pictionary/charades interest approach. Once they acted or drew out the idea given to them students had to relate it to SAE. If they were given a letter they were instructed to find a spot in the room and become that letter. The students not being letter has to determine which letter they were and than decide what they stood for.
I think my interest approach went well. Some comments were the directions were not super clear where others said it was easy to follow. I think it was a good way to get students up and moving and involved first thing for the class. For future reference when I have more than 6 students I can have more students act out more things but not much you can do with six students which is an example if never knowing how many will be in your class and you need to be able to be flexible with that.
Megs! I think that is a really great idea for interest approach! It is hard to make SAE's exciting in the classroom, they are more exciting outside of the classroom. But I think it was great that you got the students up and around stimulating their minds and waking them up!
ReplyDeleteMegan, I think getting students up and out of their seats is really important. When it comes to clarity I like to write out what i'm going to say ahead of time and that seems to help. I think this was a good idea for an interest approach!
ReplyDeleteMegan, what a great way to utilize a go get it e moment. It sounds like your interest approach went well and got students up and moving which is always a great thing. Giving directions is something that I often stumble through, especially if I do not have them scripted out. I have found if I take my time and slow down through directions that it is more clear to my students and I have time to process exactly what I am telling them. Overall, it sounds like lab went very well, this sounds like a great activity to get students excited about SAE's.
ReplyDeleteMegan, I really like your Blog design first of all. Your idea certainly sounds interesting. For me personally, in writing it sounds really confusing. I would have to watch a video or you demonstrating it to really grasp how it works. I'm glad that your interest approach went well though. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteMegan, good job with getting your students up and moving. I feel like in being Ag Teachers we have such a good advantage in letting our students get up and get motivated with the content that we teach. Clarity is an important factor when teaching. I am also having some issues with that and the way that I feel like would work best for me to come across clearer is writing out everything I am going to say and do. I know this is an extra step but it definitely helps out when you are drawing a blank. Just remember we are all here to help each other reach that same end goal!
